5 warning signals of termite damage: Keep your eyes peeled

Menu Contact

When you're looking through your options while shopping for a new home, it's important to look for the warning signals of a termite infestation. Not all home sellers are completely honest when selling a home, and by taking the proactive steps to find termite damage, you could avoid getting into a seriously difficult legal situation.

Here's what to look for:

Wood floor blistering: When wood flooring is blistering up, homeowners might try to pass it off as water damage, but it could be the signs of subterranean termites. Make sure you call an expert to look at this kind of damage carefully when you discover it.

Hollowed out and damaged wood: Termites chew through blocks of wood trying to find cellulose -- which is the sweetest part of the wood for them. They chew through these areas and leave hollowed out sections that weaken the wood and could cause your structure to collapse.

Evidence of swarming: When you find lost termite winks it could be a sign that termites are swarming near your home because of an infestation. When termites fly, they are in the process of traveling to new locations and when they land, they lose their wings and start consuming wood.

Mud tubes of termites: Subterranean termites use tubes to safely traverse from underground to wood that's above ground. Tubes along the outside of the home leading up to the residence are a sign that there could be a serious termite issue.

Termite wood droppings: When termites eat wood, they often leave behind wood excrement. Look out for this "wood" material.

If you've purchased a termite infested home unknowingly, you have legal rights and options. Our law firm is available to help guide you through the process of pursuing a claim for damages in court.
